As a new lockdown grows likely and as the winter break is just around the corner, people are wondering if one can travel abroad amid lockdown.

In this decisive week in France, French people are more and more certain a new lockdown will be soon implemented. As the Winter break is just around the corner, some are already wondering about vacations they might have already planned. Is it possible to travel despite lockdown?

As for trips in France, those are compromised. According to the rules of the first two lockdowns, it is out of the question to travel from one region to the other – excluding pressing matters or business matters as planned by the derogatory trip certificates. Surprise (or not): leisure stays are not part of the derogatory trips allowed during lockdowns.

As for stays abroad, it depends on the case. Officially speaking, one shall “stay home” and avoid trips to other countries to prevent from spreading the virus over territories. But in reality, it also depends on the other countries’ conditions to enter. For some of them, you can enter depending on some conditions excluding touristic stays. You will have to check and ask travel operators, airlines and/or trainlines, or by checking the official website of the country’s government likely to put together recommendations and restrictions in the country keeping them updated on a regular basis.
