Calls for tougher measures are multiplying, and with good reason: as of March 27, 2021, all the departments in theÎle-de-France region, with the exception of Hauts-de-Seine (507.3), had the highest incidence rates in France. Seine-Saint-Denis leads the way with 777 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Val d'Oise with 774.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Next come Seine-et-Marne (675.8), Val-de-Marne (664.3), Paris (575.1), Essonne (571.2) and Yvelines (542.7). It should be noted that the effects of restrictions can only be assessed at least two weeks after they come into force.

Hospitals in the Paris region are facing a difficult period ahead. While 80% of non-covid activity has been deprogrammed in order to care for patients developing a severe form of the coronavirus, AP-HP crisis managers claim that within a fortnight, capacity will be exceeded. The President of the Île-de-France region, Valérie Pécresse, had called for school vacations to be brought forward in an attempt tocontain the epidemic.
