Should vaccination be open to all the French? As the coronavirus epidemic is slowing down in France, the vaccine seems to be the only hope to see life returns to normal as the summer is just around the corner. Launched since the end of 2020, the vaccination campaign progressively open to priority targets and from now on, all French over the age of majority can book slots available within 24h.
And for good reason, doctors and vaccination centers are worried about the number of vacant slots, that lead to doses thrown away because there are not enough patients. Even though there are tools such as Covidliste enabling non-priority French to come up as volunteers to prevent waste, the situation is different depending on territories because of the density, the viral circulation and the number of doses available. Because, on the contrary, opening the vaccination campaign to a too large public in places there are fewer slots available could prevent French given priority from being vaccinated as soon as possible.
So, is it necessary to locally adapt the vaccination campaign to prevent waste? This is the stance some local elected representative commit to. In Cannes, against the government’s blessing, the city has decided to open access to vaccine from 40 years old instead of 50. At the Stade de France, the Departmental Council has decided to open vaccination to priority professions regardless of age.
