It is said of France and Paris it is the country of gastronomy. Although France ranks well in the ranking of the cities with the most Michelin-starred restaurants, Paris is upstaged by Tokyo, in Japan.

French gastronomy has not a lot to envy to other countries’. Yet, one city upstages France when it comes to the amount of Michelin starred restaurants: Tokyo, Japan. Paris ranks two with 112 Michelin-starred restaurants.

In Tokyo, 206 restaurants are reported on the Guide Michelin’s website, which is not surprising since gastronomy is highly appreciated by Japanese people. Among the best places: Sushi Yoshitake, Makimura, Quintessence and L’Osier.

Far behind, with almost half that number of Michelin restaurants, Paris stands out with nine 3-starred restaurants acknowledged by the profession including restaurants ran by Guy Savoy, Yannick Alléno and Pierre Gagnaire.

As the third one comes another Japanese city, Kyoto, with 110 Michelin-starred restaurants, very close to Paris, then. The fourth position is held by another Japanese city, Osaka. It is even said it is Japan’s capital city of gastronomy.

Last but not least, New York ranks as the fifth. It is the American city to stop by to enjoy healthy and starred food, although these starred restaurants are said very expensive.
