On Monday February 19th, a fire broke out in a residential building at 57 rue de Lyon, in the heart of the 12th arrondissement of Paris, requiring a large-scale emergency response. At 10:20 a.m., flames broke out on the 4th floor of a five-storey building, prompting the rapid mobilization of 120 firefighters supported by some 40 vehicles.
Although the situation was quickly brought under control by the emergency services, four residents were injured, and were treated urgently by the teams on site, according to BFMTV. The fire, visible from several nearby streets, generated a large plume of smoke, which was captured and shared by numerous witnesses on social networks, heightening the urgency of the event.
The scale of the fire prompted the authorities to issue strict safety instructions, urging the population to avoid the area so as not to hamper rescue efforts, and to keep emergency telephone lines clear. The aim of these preventive measures is to facilitate rapid intervention by the fire department and ensure the safety of all concerned.
This disaster is a reminder of the vulnerability of urban structures to fire hazards, and underlines the crucial importance of prompt, coordinated responses from the emergency services. The responsiveness and professionalism of the Paris fire department have been crucial in managing this crisis, limiting the damage and ensuring effective care for the victims.
At midday, the fire was still not fully under control. " We are still in the offensive phase against the fire and, given the seriousness of the situation, it will be necessary to expect emergency teams to remain on the scene for an extended period ", said the fire service.
In short, please note that the area is closed to traffic, and residents and onlookers are asked to stay away from the area and not to saturate the emergency telephone lines.
