Does your apartment have a room you don't use? Are you going on vacation during the Olympic Games? Now's your chance to take advantage of this particularly busy period to rent out a room, apartment or house in Paris and the Ile-de-France region.

Faced with the large number of tourists expected during the two weeks of the Olympic Games (from July 26 to August 11, as a reminder) and the days of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games competitions (from August 28 to September 8), many Parisians and Ile-de-France residents are renting out their apartments during this period, when hotels, youth hostels and other accommodation are mostly fully booked.

However, if you want to rent out your apartment - and stay within the law, of course - there are a few conditions to observe, to ensure that everything runs smoothly. Renting out your apartment on a temporary basis is only possible if you are the owner. If you are planning to sublet your home, it is essential that your landlord or agency agrees, and that you obtain written authorization (in which case, if the subletting is discovered, you will be obliged to pay the income you have earned during the subletting period, and may even risk termination of your lease). If your landlord agrees to sublet, you will not be able to rent your home at a higher rent than you are currently paying.

If you live in a condominium, check the condominium bylaws to ensure that short-term rentals are not prohibited (according to the site Particulier à Particulier). Once these initial conditions have been met, there are a number of steps to follow.

Steps to follow :

  1. If your home is in Paris, you'll need to register online. All you have to do is go to the Mairie de Paris website and complete the operation free of charge. You'll then receive a registration number, which you can include in your rental ad.
  2. Check with your insurer to make sure you'recovered for seasonal rentals.
  3. Set your prices. Prices are skyrocketing during the Olympic Games, so if you want to be sure of renting out your property, you'll need to keep to the market average (or lower, if you don't necessarily want to make a big profit). We've seen prices double, triple and even more for the Olympic Games: find out before you leap!
  4. Mention services: appliances, wifi, proximity to supermarkets/restaurants/Olympic competition venues...
  5. Opt for a concierge service to welcome your guests, if you can afford it. This will enable you to draw up an inventory of fixtures on arrival and departure, which is optional but useful to protect you in the event of breakage or damage.

If you're still thinking of renting out your accommodation during the Olympic Games, all you have to do is get started!
