As the Bread Festival returns to the Parvis Notre-Dame in Paris from May 7, 2024, the town of Suresnes is gearing up for an attempt to beat the record for the world's longest baguette. On Sunday May 5, 2024, the Hauts-de-Seine town will host the"Suresnes Baguette Show", organized in partnership with the Confédération nationale de la boulangerie-pâtisserie française and the Syndicat des boulangers du Grand Paris. The aim for the bakers? Attempt to bake a baguette over 132.62 meters long! To validate this future title, the Guinness World Records jury will be present. Note that the current record for the world's longest baguette is held by Italy, with a baguette baked in Como on June 16, 2019.
As is the rule, the dough is kneaded, shaped on site and then baked in a rolling oven under a tent for around 8 hours! The composition of the baguette must also meet a number of criteria. Only wheat flour, water, yeast and salt are permitted as ingredients. In addition, this giant baguette must be at least 5 cm thick along its entire length.
After being submitted to Guinness World Records for approval, the gigantic baguette will be cut into several parts, one of which will be topped with a spread and shared with the audience. The second part will be distributed by Celije, an association based in Suresno, during an evening food drive for the homeless.
The challenge promises to be a major one, but the twelve bakers, including five from Suresnes, will be able to count on the public to cheer them on. Spectators, curious to witness this unusual event or eager to support the bakers, are expected on May 5 from 10 a.m. on the Fécheray terrace in Suresnes, with its panoramic view of Paris and the Eiffel Tower.
The"Suresnes Baguette Show", hosted by Alex Goude, will also be an opportunity to enjoy fun family events.
" In Suresnes, we are fortunate to have 18 bakers, whose presence and expertise maintain traditions of sharing that are essential to the conviviality of our town. Suresnes is therefore particularly proud to welcome this attempt to give back to France a record that enhances a national symbol of our gastronomy ", said Guillaume Boudy, Mayor of Suresnes and Vice-Chairman of the Hauts-de-Seine Departmental Council, in a press release.
So, will the record for the world's longest baguette be beaten and will it go to France at this"Suresnes Baguette Show"? The answer will be given on May 5, 2024, during this event open to the public, which starts at 10 a.m. on the Fécheray terrace in Suresnes.
