On The Moon Again is an international initiative to promote astronomy and lunar exploration. The event encourages astronomy enthusiasts, scientists and the general public to come together to observe the Moon through telescopes and share their knowledge, worldwide. The 2024 edition takes place from June 14 to 16.
Created in 2019, originally to celebrate the 50th anniversary ofApollo 11 's first lunar landing in 1969, On the Moon Again aims to increase interest in astronomy, but also to give people a better understanding of the scientific importance of the Moon and space missions. By 2019, 1,350 events had been held in 77 countries. Every year since, On the Moon Again has been back for young and old alike.
How does it work? TheOn the Moon Again website allows you to propose an observation site, which is then validated or not, and proposed on the site to others. You can also find an observation site near you. As of the last update, June 5, 2024, there are 537 registered observing sites in 45 countries. In Paris, La Cité des Sciences is offering an observation session on June 14 from 8pm to 11pm. The same applies to the Palais de la découverte and the Club d'astronomie du Lycée Louis Le Grand.
