Just in time for the summer vacations, the Cité des Sciences et de l' Industrie opens its brand-new exhibition for young visitors from July 2, 2024, to June 28, 2026, on a universal theme: dance. From hip hop to classical dance, salsa, contemporary, waltz and other traditional dances, dance is an integral part of the culture of every country and every region of the world.
An art form in its own right, a means of expression that tells all through gestures, dance is as unifying as it is diverse: for this original exhibition, the Cité des Sciences invites you to put your body in motion, so that you too can learn to express yourself through dance. " Dancing is essential," says Laurence Conesi, the exhibition's co-curator, "essential to a child's development, or to managing emotions, it's also a way of communicating and living together.
Designed around an unusual visitor experience, the Danser exhibition invites you to set your body in motion during a collective dance moment. Using devices designed in collaboration with dancers and choreographers, you are now the king or queen of the dancefloor! Jumping, turning, walking, meeting, landing: the exhibition is built around five parts, including four essential dance gestures (jumping, turning, walking, meeting). In each space, films illustrate the movements, then it's your turn to play, or rather, to dance, within the interactive and playful installations. Finally, round off your visit with the grand bal dansé, where you can learn the guinguette waltz, the Renaissance branle or the 70s disco all together!
Note: the exhibition has been designed to be accessible to as many visitors as possible, including the deaf (all spoken videos are signed) and the visually impaired (touchscreen devices).
The exhibition is designed for children aged 4 to 8, but of course you can also bring the whole family. So, shall we go dancing at the Cité des Sciences from July onwards?
