Since the announcement of the results of the European elections and the dissolution of the National Assembly, calls for demonstrations against the far right have multiplied across the country. On Sunday evening, between 2,000 and 3,000 people gathered spontaneously on the Place de la République in Paris to protest against the far right. On Monday June 10, several youth organizations called for further demonstrations and rallies at the Place de la République, as well as in other French cities.
With early parliamentary elections scheduled for June 30 and July 7, demonstrations against the far-right are being organized across France. The inter-union group and several associations are calling for a demonstration on Saturday June 15, 2024 in Paris. In a press release, the inter-union group, a number of associations including SOS Racisme and LDH (Ligue des Droits de l'Homme), and student unions are calling for another major rally this Saturday. The procession will set off at around 2pm from Place de la République to Place de la Nation, via Boulevard du Temple, Boulevard des Filles du Calvaire, Boulevard Beaumarchais, Place de la Bastille, Rue de Lyon, Avenue Daumesnil and Boulevard Diderot.
"Abstention and the far right reached a record high in the European elections on June 9. This trend is at work throughout Europe, but France is the country in which far-right lists scored the highest," warns the inter-union in a statement published on June 11.
" We need a democratic and social awakening. Failing that, the extreme right will come to power ", add the unions, reminding us that "the Republic and our democracy are in danger ". The inter-union coalition and several associations are therefore calling for " the widest possible demonstration this weekend, June 15 and 16, to highlight the need for progressive alternatives for the world of work". In Paris, the meeting point is Saturday June 15 at 2pm for a demonstration starting from Place de la République, heading for Place de la Nation, via Boulevard du Temple, Boulevard des Filles du Calvaire, Boulevard Beaumarchais, Place de la Bastille, Rue de Lyon, Avenue Daumesnil and Boulevard Diderot.
