The Devil Wears Prada is a novel by American author Lauren Weisberger, published in 2003. Adapted into a film by David Frankel in 2006, it stars Meryl Streep as the tyrannical boss of a major world magazine, and Anne Hathaway as the young journalist who fights for her new position. On Monday, July 8, 2024, the American newspaper The Variety announced that Disney is currently working on a sequel to this must-see film from the 2000s. The sequel is to be written by the screenwriter behind The Devil Wears Prada, Aline Brosh McKenna. While it's not yet clear which actors will be in the cast, we do know that the film will revolve around the character of Miranda Priestly (played by Meryl Streep), who is nearing the end of her career and will have to deal with her rival-turned-assistant, Emily Charlton (played by Emily Blunt).
The Devil Wears Prada tells the story of Andrea Sachs(Anne Hathaway), a young journalism graduate who becomes assistant to the formidable editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) of the prestigious fashion magazine Runway. Although initially indifferent to fashion, Andy transforms herself to adapt to the demands of the job and this particular world, negatively affecting her personal life and relationships. This cult story, inspired by true events and fashion icon Anna Wintour in particular, deserves a sequel!
Upon its release in 2006, The Devil Wears Prada was a phenomenal success, grossing over $326 million at the worldwide box office against a production budget of $35 million. Nominated for an Oscar in 2007, Meryl Streep won the 2007 Golden Globes for Best Actress in a Comedy. The Devil Wears Prada has left an indelible mark on popular culture and the world of cinema, and fans are eagerly awaiting the cult film's sequel!
