At 07:33 this morning, a major accident occurred on theouter A86 at kilometre point 52+429, at the junction with the D920 and D986 departmental roads, nearAntony. The incident involved heavy goods vehicles only, and no light vehicles, vans, motorcycles or buses were affected.
The accident led to the complete neutralization of both lanes of traffic on the outer A86 in this area, forcing all vehicles to take exit 27 towards the D986 and D920 departmental roads, in the direction of Sceaux and Bourg-la-Reine. The authorities reacted swiftly to set up this compulsory detour, to guarantee the safety of road users and facilitate rescue operations.
Around twenty firefighters were mobilized to clear the debris, clear the road and regulate traffic. No injuries were reported. The consequences were not long in coming: huge traffic jams formed around the accident area, stretching as far as the Vélizy Centre exit towards Paris, even three hours later.
At around 10:30 a.m., the Hauts-de-Seine prefect announced that the tunnel had reopened, after more than three hours of disruption. Motorists, blocked for more than 10 km, were beginning to lose patience.
Some got out of their vehicles, waiting to get back on the road. Others walked along the road to try and get more information. Moving forward or turning back was impossible.
Traffic is gradually picking up, but the area is still very congested. To connect Vélizy-Villacoublay to the A86 towards Créteil (Val-de-Marne), Sytadin advises you to take the N118 towards the A10 (Nantes/Bordeaux), up to exit 6b towards Palaiseau (Essonne), then follow the A10 towards Lille. This detour will add around 9 km to your journey.
This accident underlines the importance of caution on the roads, particularly on busy stretches such as the A86. Road authorities are advising drivers to plan their journeys and monitor traffic information in real time, in order to make the best possible travel choices.
