The Salle Gaveau, inaugurated in 1907, has always been dedicated to classical music concerts and recitals. This year, producer Jean-Marc Dumontet, already owner of five theaters in Paris, acquired it for the sum of 8 million euros. But what does the future hold for the Salle Gaveau ?
Jean-Marc Dumontet, in an interview with Le Figaro, believes that " like the classical music world, Gaveau needs to renew itself ". The owner of the five theaters adds that this will not involve renovations, but new programming: " acoustic concerts by headliners, one-man shows and humor ". Not surprising from the French producer who owns Le Point Virgule and Le Grand Point Virgule, venues dedicated to humor and comedy.
The Salle Gaveau, created by the Gaveau family of piano makers, has played host to legendary musicians such as Alfred Cortot and Pablo Casals. After almost being demolished in the 1960s, it was bought in 1976 by music enthusiasts Chantal and Jean-Marie Fournier. The classical music venue has been a listed building since 1992.
The future of the Salle Gaveau is thus well mapped out, with the next season due to be presented in the first quarter of 2025. Jean-Marc Dumontet also points out that a few changes could be made to the classical program already announced until June 2025. So, would you like to see a comedy show at the Salle Gaveau?
