Disruptions are underway on the A6 and A36 motorways due to bad weather - snow and freezing rain - in many French departments.
This Friday, November 22, 2024, 31 départements have been placed under vigilance orange for snow and freezing rain, from Nord-Bretagne/Normandie to Grand Est, via Ile-de-France and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Due to the bad weather, disruptions are underway on the A6 and A36 motorways.
Weather forecasts indicate that the snowfalls underway since Thursday morning could continue until the end of the day. Please exercise caution and follow safety instructions on these and other major roads. Keep up to date withdevelopments.
Traffic situation at 5.15pm, according to APRR :
- On the A36 freeway, at the Beaune-Mulhouse access road. Traffic is gradually resuming. Disruptions persist between Mulhouse and the Fontaine toll plaza, and between Mulhouse and the Masevaux N°15 interchange.
Towards Mulhouse:
- Traffic slowed down sharply at the Saint-Maurice toll plaza, after exit N°6 at Isle-sur-le-Doubs.
- Traffic is also slowing down following an accident at Km 52, after exit N°7 for Valentigney.
Reminder of safety instructions and advice to follow during these conditions :
- When difficult conditions are forecast, postpone your departure.
- Before you leave, find out about the weather and traffic conditions. Go to voyage.aprr.frin the "Itinerary and traffic" tab and enter your route. The weather is indicated on the map by dots. This will help you prepare for your departure.
- The French Highway Code forbids you to overtake salt spreaders or snowploughs in action. Traffic conditions are much better behind snow clearing trains, i.e. behind the spreader rather than in front of it. Stay behind salting and snow-clearing vehicles. Bear in mind that if the spreader is performing a salting operation, even if it's preventive, road conditions can be tricky. Spreaders and snowplows travel at low speeds on freeways (50km/h).
- Check vehicle condition and opt for winter tires (loi Montagne 2)
- Make sure you have good visibility: clear snow, de-ice and clean the windshield, rear window, side windows and headlights.
- On the freeway, listen to Autoroute INFO news bulletins (107.7 FM) and pay close attention to messages on illuminated signs.
- In case of heavy rain, fog, snow or black ice, reduce your speed and increase your safety distance from the vehicle in front.
- In the event of heavy rain, hail or snow, stop at the nearest service area and wait for further information before resuming your journey.
- For heavy goods vehicles, follow the instructions issued by the Prefectures: driving bans, speed limits and overtaking limits.
