Are you ready to discover the competition calendar for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games? The International Olympic Committee gathered this week to approve the competition calendar by sessions, while we wait for the detailed games in June. Paris Games will last 19 days, and provide 329 games and 762 sessions on specific time slots.
Paris 2024 will start on July 24, 2024, two days before the opening ceremony planned on the Seine. Three team sports will inaugurate the games, handball at Lille Stade Pierre-Mauroy, rugby sevens at the Stade de France, and male and female soccer, in cities welcoming Olympic competitions, namely Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Nantes, Saint-Etienne and Nice.
The first medals will be given the day after the ceremony, on July 27 in eight disciplines: men and women cycling time trial, judo, fencing, diving, rugby sevens, shooting, swimming and skateboarding. Skateboard will be one of the first new sports to start, on the Place de la Concorde transformed into a street park from July 27 to August 10. The place will also host BMX freestyle games, 3x3 basketball and breaking.
Swimming finales will take place at Paris La Défense Arena, so will athleticism finales in the evening, at the Stade de France. One can attend on August 3 and 4, about fifteen finales such as tennis, judo, golf, archery, badminton, or swimming, to name a few.
As for triathlon, games on road and the Seine will be scattered all along the Olympic Games, between July 3 and August 5. Cycling games will take place on August 3 and 4, whilst marathon swimming will take place on August 8 and 9. The IOC also scattered on four days male and female finales of field hockey, handball, football, beach volleyball, basketball, and water-polo, from Thursday August 8 to Sunday 11.
Good to know, games will start at 7:30 a.m. to finish at 11:30 p.m. in the week, and midnight on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find out more about details, you have to wait until late June for the exact time slots, as the Paralympic Games calendar will only land in the summer 2023.
