Could the end of the surfing events at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games be in jeopardy? Doubt remains, but one thing's for sure: the finals couldn't be held this Saturday, August 3, due to the weather... A lack of swell, to be more precise, preventing surfers from taking to the waves at Tahiti's legendary spot, Teahupo'o. As a result, the organizers announced on Saturday that the finals would be postponed until Monday August 5, provided there was enough swell to surf, of course.
More specifically, this delay concerns the four semi-finals, the two bronze medal small finals, as well as the women's and men's finals. Among the athletes still competing, two Frenchmen in particular are attracting attention: Kauli Vaast and Johanne Defay. Kauli Vaast, a talented local surfer, will face Peru's Alonso Correa in what promises to be a tough semi-final. Johanne Defay, meanwhile, after eliminating the reigning Olympic champion, will face Caroline Marks, the current world champion.
It should be noted that the organizers had prudently allowed for an extra day in case of unforeseen circumstances, a wise decision which will enable surfers to compete in ideal conditions. The finals are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Paris time. Surfing fans and supporters will therefore have to be patient before discovering the medal winners of this edition of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. We look forward to seeing you on Monday!
