Rhythmic gymnastics: the French sign a very fine performance at the Paris 2024 Games

After the first round of the individual all-around competition on Friday August 9, the second part of the competition, this time in teams, took place on Saturday August 10, 2024, at the Porte de la Chapelle Arena.

Not the most popular discipline in the Olympic gymnastics category, rhythmic gymnastics - not to be confused with artistic gymnastics - requires flexibility, agility and, above all, handling of the discipline's various accessories. Hoops, ribbons, balls and even clubs are all part of the difficulty of this discipline, even more so in teams of 5, as the discipline is practiced at the Olympic Games in the all-around group competition.

The suspense was intense right up to the end: while China dominated the standings, Bulgaria had a very good chance of a bronze medal, with Italy in silver. All the cards were down at the last moment, after the final passage of the Israeli athletes, who were crowned Olympic runners-up, behind China and ahead of Italy.

In the end, the French gymnasts finished 6th overall, having put in a very fine performance scoring 66 points in total, 3.8 points less than the Chinese, now Olympic champions in the discipline for the first time in their history. Since the Sydney Games in 2000, the French had not managed to qualify according to the Olympic minima: they made their comeback for these Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with a choreography to a Johnny Hallyday song, particularly appreciated by the audience at the Arena Porte de la Chapelle, during this morning's qualifications.
