Released in 2021, Black Widow is an action/espionage film directed by Cate Shortland. With Scarlett Johansson reprising her iconic role as Natasha Romanoff, the film also stars Florence Pugh(Midsommar), Rachel Weisz(The Mummy), and David Harbour(Stranger Things). Black Widow offers an introspective look at one of the Avengers' most mysterious characters, revealing buried secrets and unexpected alliances.
Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow(Scarlett Johansson), is forced to confront the darkest aspects of her past when a fearsome conspiracy linked to her former activities as a spy resurfaces. Pursued by a ruthless force that will stop at nothing to eliminate her, Natasha must reconnect with her skills as a spy and reclaim relationships broken long before she joined the Avengers. Aided by her former allies, including Yelena Belova(Florence Pugh), Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz) and Alexei Shostakov (David Harbour), Natasha embarks on a perilous mission to dismantle the Black Widow program and confront her personal demons.
Black Widow will appeal to fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe(MCU), as well as to fans of action and espionage films. The film stands out for its intense action scenes, precisely choreographed fight sequences and revelations about Natasha Romanoff's past. Audiences who enjoyed films such as Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Red Sparrow will find Black Widow a gripping, suspenseful adventure. Scarlett Johansson's performance, combined with that of Florence Pugh, adds emotional depth and dynamism to the story.
Black Widow is an explosive espionage adventure that delves into the complex and mysterious past of one of the Avengers' most enigmatic members. Available on Disney+ from July 12, 2024, this film offers a combination of suspense, action and emotion, perfect for Marvel fans and lovers of spy thrillers. Whether you're a fan of the Marvel universe or looking for an intense action movie, Black Widow promises an unforgettable cinematic experience.
Our opinion on Black Widow (2022):
Black Widow is a feature-length super-heroic film that's a far cry from the usual Marvel Studios offerings, closer in narrative terms to the Falcon and the Winter Soldier series, with a simple, effective espionage plot that doesn't turn the genre on its head. Scarlett Johansson's acting is impeccable as ever, with a character that's a bit like the one we discovered in Avengers, mischievous and manipulative. Quite enjoyable.
We also appreciate the film's dense, sustained pace, calibrated to ensure there's never a shortage of action. The film's cinematography is interesting and a little cold, but echoes the not-quite-finished "Cold War" atmosphere of the "Red Room", corresponding to the general mood of the film. A refreshing film that should please fans of the original... And if not, of course, we'll stay with you until the end credits, as the film features two post-generic scenes, one of which links up with phase 4 of the MCU, which began with the series available on Disney+.
