Known as the King of Cinema! Welcome to the Grand Rex, Europe's largest cinema! And when you take a look inside, it's easy to see why. The building boasts 7 cinemas and a grand auditorium capable of seating over 2,700 people on 3 levels. Its art-deco facade, starry vaulted ceiling and baroque feel give this cinema a dimension that goes beyond the cinema. We owe this unique decoration, with its oriental Mediterranean ambience, to its creator, Jacques Haïk, a French producer of Tunisian origin who created the Grand Rex in 1932. Since then, the Grand Rex has lost none of its iconic status in the French capital. Whatever you're going to see, the experience is well worth the detour in this atypical cinema, listed as a historical monument.
In addition to the films shown in the main hall, the Grand Rex also hosts numerous previews, shows and concerts featuring international stars, such as the recent Madonna show. Previews have also been attended by celebrities from Hitchcock to Steven Spielberg to Monica Bellucci. And don't miss the show at the Grand Rex: the Féerie des Eaux created in 1954. It takes place every year from mid-November to early January, with no fewer than 1,200 water jets rising from 10 to 15 meters in height. Right next door to the cinema is the Rex Studio, where guided tours take you behind the scenes of film production!
It's a cinema well surrounded, with the Musée du Chocolat just 170 m away and the Musée Grévin, famous for its celebrity wax statues, 450 m away. Almost opposite the Grand Rex, you'll find the Comedy Club, a venue for one-man shows by young talent, and a 4-minute walk away, the Mamacita restaurant.
