The Menu, the captivating thriller that blends haute gastronomy and suspense, is set to treat Disney+ subscribers from April 26, 2024. Directed by Mark Mylod, known for his work on Ali G and various Game of Thrones episodes, the film offers an unforgettable cinematic meal.
In The Menu, Mark Mylod orchestrates a thrilling story set in the exclusive world of a renowned restaurant. Anya Taylor-Joy, who has made a name for herself in a number of high-profile roles, plays one of the main guests in this unique gastronomic adventure. She is joined by Ralph Fiennes, famous for his portrayal of Voldemort in the Harry Potter saga, John Leguizamo, seen in Violent Night, Aimee Carrero, known for Spirited on Apple TV+, and Rob Yang, appreciated in The Resident.
The plot follows a couple, played by Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicolas Hoult, who travel to a remote island to experience one of today's most exclusive restaurants, run by a genius chef(Ralph Fiennes). Joined by other exceptional guests, their evening promises to be memorable, but the dishes served conceal surprises as unexpected as they are extreme, transforming their culinary experience into an evening they won't soon forget.
With its star-studded cast and gripping storyline, Le Menu is set to deliver an exquisite viewing experience on Disney+. The film is an invitation to discover the dark underbelly of haute gastronomy, served up with a dose of suspense and irony. For thriller fans and cinephile gourmets alike, this appointment on Disney+ promises to be a must-see.
Our opinion on Le Menu:
With The Menu, Mark Mylod delivers not only a well-paced, suspenseful thriller, a film with a dark edge, but above all a satire of all that is worst in the world of haute gastronomy.
Chef Slowik(Ralph Fiennes), who practices his art on an island where guests join him, is full of himself and tyrannical with his brigade, which he leads in a military fashion. Here, the guests - led by Anya Taylor Joy, a redhead for the occasion - undergo a deadly experiment in which they are trapped by the chef and his team. It's almost"eat or die".
In addition to the actors, the director films the kitchen, with all its details, maturing meat, pipettes and piping bags in close-up, which will appeal to fans of haute cuisine. In addition to these appetizing shots, each moment of the meal is indicated on screen, as is the name of the dish, in the same way as on a menu, so as not to lose anything of the unfolding of the meal, the main thread of the plot.
Some elements seem directly inspired by the (real) world of gastronomy. For example, the "breadless bread plate" is presented as a painting palette with elements of different colors, reminiscent of Matthias Marc 's apology for flat excess in Top Chef 2021. Or the evocation of a certain fictitious Guy Passard, a cross between Guy Savoy 's first name and Alain Passard's surname. These are details that culinary enthusiasts will have fun spotting.
