Darren Aronofsky is no stranger to cutting-edge narratives designed to provoke unease ("Requiem for a Dream", "Black Swan", "Mother!"), and he's back with "The Whale", a drama about a morbidly obese man, reclusive in his own home, who tries to reconnect with his daughter. The film won the Oscar for Best Actor.

A new Darren Aronofsky film is always a small event in itself. Six years after Mother! his last film, the director behind Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream and The Fountain returns with The Whale, a mysterious feature film selected for the Venice Film Festival and nominated for three Oscars (Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Make-up). On Sunday March 12, Brendan Fraser won theOscar for Best Actor.

The trailer for The Whale

The cast of this drama, due in cinemas from March 8, includes Brendan Fraser, who makes an unexpected comeback. The actor, whose popularity exploded in the late 2000s with The Mummy films, had disappeared from cinema screens, and was only seen in second- or even third-rate films. He plays Charlie, an obese, reclusive English teacher who tries to reconnect with his teenage daughter for a last chance at redemption. The latter is played by Sadie Sink, best known for her role as Max in Stranger Things.
