After the success of the first installment, Les Trois Mousquetaires - D'Artagnan, it's time to follow up the diptych with Les Trois Mousquetaires - Milady. Still directed by Martin Bourboulon, this new chapter arrives on VOD for purchase on April 11 and for rental on April 17, 2024.
From the Louvre to Buckingham Palace, through the dark streets of Paris to the siege of La Rochelle, the film plunges us into a tumultuous era marked by religious wars and the constant threat of invasion from England. In this dense historical context, a few emblematic characters stand out, crossing swords and putting their fate on the line for the greatness of France. The screenplay, adapted fromAlexandre Dumas' masterpiece, has been entrusted to Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellière.
The film's casting is also one of its major assets. François Civil reprises his role as D'Artagnan, while Vincent Cassel plays Athos, Romain Duris Aramis, and Pio Marmaï plays Porthos. Alongside them, Eva Green lights up the screen as Milady.
And if you don't remember how the first installment ended, the second will take (too) long to recap the main events. D'Artagnan has been kidnapped by traitors to the king, and now has only one goal: to find his beloved Constance (Lyna Khoudri), who has also been kidnapped. And this sequel is a continuation of the first part, with the same qualities - the verve of the dialogues, the close-up staging of the fights - but without the surprises, since we've already seen the first film.
In fact, this sequel lacks renewal, and the element of surprise is totally absent. But if you enjoyed D'Artagnan, you'll enjoy Milady just as much, even if this second opus falls a little short. Highlights include a very funny scene with a cameo by Alexis Michalik, and new Dantesque confrontations packed with tension.
