The Ghostbusters are back to haunt the screens! Ghostbusters: The Ice Menace, the sequel to the feature film released in 2021 and directed here by Gil Kenan, famous for such films as Monster House and Poltergeist, will be available on VOD for purchase on August 8, 2024 and for rental on August 13, 2024. A new chapter that promises a brand-new adventure for the Spengler family, returning to their origins in New York's iconic firehouse.
The film features an all-star cast including Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, McKenna Grace and Kumail Nanjiani, as well as some of the original actors such as Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts. In this opus, the Spengler family and the original Ghostbusters will have to team up to face a threat of surprising proportions. The opening of an ancient artifact releases an evil force threatening to unleash an Ice Age on the city. Their mission: to protect their homes and save the world from this icy menace.
The trailer features a captivating mix of humor, action and thrills typical of the Ghostbusters franchise. A first introduction to what promises to be a box-office hit about to explode in cinemas from April 3, 2024.
Our review of Ghostbusters - The Ice Menace:
Break out the proton packs, Ghostbusters fans! The Ghostbusters are back, more alive than ever, with a second opus that offers both good and not-so-good things. Starting with the story: this one undoubtedly meets the production's specifications, with a story that's not full of surprises, stitched together from white film, but very solid all the same. It's dynamic, the pace is good and the dialogue gets the job done. That's all we need... And the film has no pretensions other than to entertain. In short, you can get out the popcorn...
As for the cast, McKenna Grace is THE star without a shadow of a doubt, and the characters gravitating around her only serve to sublimate her, even if certain roles are dispensable, not to say completely invisible. They're there, we're happy to see them, but they clearly deserved more spotlight, despite a few attempts(Paul Rudd trying to impose himself as a father he's not is a good idea, for example, but clearly not taken to its logical conclusion). Perhaps by trying too hard to integrate characters, we end up forgetting some along the way... It feels like a transition film between the first installment and the potential third to come. You'll have to make up your own mind.
Graphically speaking, the film is well made, without being overpowering. The special effects are relatively good, but lack the sparkle to make them truly memorable. But the honor is still intact. We also appreciate the arrival of a new ghost, Melody, bringing a touch of humanity to a spirit world that sorely needed it. There are also a few well-dosed easter eggs, scattered sparingly. The idea is to please fans without crowding out neophytes, and it works.
In short, this is good entertainment but could have been better; it lacks originality, wanting to focus on its basics and reassure fans, but works with the right dose of humor and a committed cast, bringing to life, overall, a work that will delight nostalgic fans without losing newcomers. Now all you have to do is nibble your popcorn!
One thing's for sure, fans of the franchise and new fans alike will appreciate the work of Kenan and his team. Get ready to thrill to Ghostbusters: The Ice Menace, a cinematic event not to be missed in 2024.
For those who love action, humor and thrills, Ghostbusters: The Ice Menace looks like the film not to be missed this year. It mixes nostalgic charm with a new generation of ghost hunters to offer something exciting and fresh to the beloved franchise. Mark your calendar for April 10, 2024.
