Attention fans of edgy, action-packed series! Furies, the new French series that has been a hit on Netflix since March 1, plunges us into the heart of dark Paris, where vengeance and organized crime weave a captivating tale. This 8-episode series follows the intense journey of a young woman determined to avenge her father's death. She soon finds herself confronted by the Furie, a mysterious and feared figure who keeps order within the Parisian criminal underworld.
Directed by Cédric Nicolas-Troyan, known for his unique cinematic eye and ability to create immersive worlds, Furies promises to be an intense visual and emotional experience. The cast brings together an array of talented actors, with Lina El Arabi in the lead role, accompanied by Marina Foïs, Mathieu Kassovitz, Steve Tientcheu, Quentin Faure, Jeremy Nadeau, Sandor Funtek, Anne Azoulay, and Eye Haïdara.
The series should be distinguished by its exploration of dark themes. In all likelihood, we can expect to see a mix of drama and action to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Furies explores ambiguous morality within organized crime, power, loyalty and the unexpected consequences of the quest for vengeance.
Our review of Furies on Netflix:
A series that goes 100 miles an hour! Furies, the latest French creation from the SVOD platform, is sure to delight fans of action films and gangsters, on several counts: firstly, its fast-paced pace, which will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the eight episodes that make up the first season. Then there's the dense storyline, which moves effortlessly between simplicity and complexity. Numerous plots that more or less come together at one point or another, all packed with references to films in the genre(Speed, The Equalizer, Mission Impossible, John Wick, etc.). In short, action, action, action...
On the casting side, we discover Marina Foïs in another register, surprising and very accurate in the skin of this cold-as-death black widow, but who shows a few more "tender" moments as she takes Lyna under her wing. Mathieu Kassovitz is also very good as the antagonist. An interesting, two-faceted character. Special mention must go to Lina El Arabi, the series' heroine, whose presence and acting make her stand out from the crowd. And the secondary characters are just as engaging.
The only drawback is that some of the plots are very predictable, leaving no surprises. But that doesn't stop us from enjoying every minute. We also appreciate the numerous references to mythology: the "Olympus", grouping together the representatives of the six families, strangely echoing the divinities in their character and their universe, but also and above all the"Furies" who, in mythology, are the divinities of vengeance and punishment, or the character of Parques, the middle hitman, with a more than evocative name.
It's also a series that doesn't take itself for what it isn't, and that's what's so appealing about it. So if you're looking for an edgy, dynamic series, you've come to the right place. If not, skip it... Ready to warm up your remote control?
