THE scoop of the century for the BBC Newsnight team... Netflix is offering its subscribers a film based on theEpstein affair, and more specifically on the disastrous interview of Prince Andrew by BBC journalist Emily Maitlis. Soberly titled Scoop, the feature-length film will be released on April 5, 2024.
A film adapted from the autobiographical book"Scoops: Behind The Scenes of the BBC's Most Shocking Interview" by former BBC Two Newsnight editor Sam McAlister. The cast includes some fine names, including Gillian Anderson, Keeley Hawes, Billie Piper and Rufus Sewell as Prince Andrew.
"Inspired by true events, this drama tells the story of how Newsnight's female contributors managed to approach Prince Andrew for an interview that turned out to be disastrous."
As a reminder, during this controversial interview, Prince Andrew, second son of Queen Elizabeth II, spoke of his friendship with sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein, as well as Ghislaine Maxwell, currently in prison. During the interview, the latter categorically denied any sexual relationship with Virginia Giuffre, who was underage at the time of the alleged events, claiming to have been at the Pizza Express in Woking when they allegedly met. Despite his initial conviction that the interview had gone well, this revelation embarrassed the British monarchy and caused a scandal. Discover the trailer!
