Leos Carax arrives at Cannes 2024 with his new film, C'est pas moi, in which he reunites with Denis Lavant - in the role of Monsieur Merde, of course. The film is intriguing... It's a free-format film, a self-portrait, that revisits over 40 years of Leos Carax's filmography and questions the great stations of his life, while capturing the political tremors of the time.
"It's an autobiographical essay - maybe it's not him, it's him. It's a real aesthetic essay, as a writer would make it; a fairly short film, very dazzling, very brilliant, which allows us, two years after Annette, to see the return of Leos Carax, who opened the festival in 2020," explained Thierry Frémaux at the press conference on April 11. Still a lot of mystery, in short...
After Boy Meets Girl (selected for Critics' Week in 1984), Pola X (in Official Selection in 1999), Holy Motors (in Official Selection in 2012) and Annette (opening the festival in 2021), which received the Prix de la mise en scène, this will be Leos Carax 's fifth visit to the Cannes Festival to present a film.
