If there's one film we're particularly looking forward to in the 2024 Critics' Week selection, it's Alexis Langlois' new film Les reines du drame, which will be presented as a special screening. As a reminder, this parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival is dedicated to highlighting and promoting first and second films by directors from all over the world.
Unveiled in its world premiere, Alexis Langlois' new film tells the story of Steevyshady(Bilal Hassani), a hyper-botoxed youtuber in 2055, who recounts the incandescent destiny of his idol, pop diva Mimi Madamour(Louiza Aura), from the height of her fame in 2005 to her descent into hell, precipitated by her love affair with punk icon Billie Kohler(Gio Ventura). For half a century, these drama queens have sung their passion and rage in the spotlight.
It's an intriguing scenario, especially given the talent of Alexis Langlois, who has directed 4 short films that have enjoyed great success at festivals, including De la terreur, mes sœurs! and Les Démons de Dorothy .
Les Reines du Drame is the young director's first feature film, and is in contention for the Caméra d'Or 2024.
