With its 3-star cast and enviable script, there's no doubt that Christmas Eve in Miller's point, Tyler Taormina's new film, is sure to be a hit at the 2024 Quinzaine des Cinéastes, where it has been selected. The cast includes Michael Cera, Elsie Fisher, Maria Dizzia, Fransesca Scorsese (daughter of) and Sawyer Spielberg (son of).
In his third feature film, Tyler Taormina tells the story of four generations of the Balsano family who gather for what may be the last Christmas in the family home in a small Long Island town. Uncles, aunts, rambunctious cousins and grandparents get merrily drunk and talk non-stop - but, without really understanding each other... As the celebrations begin to get out of hand, young Emily and Michelle run away in search of rebellion.
Incidentally, the cinematographer of Christmas Eve in Miller's point is none other than Carson Lund, director of the film Eephus, which is itself selected for the Quinzaine des Cinéastes!
Cineastes' Fortnight review: "There will be at least one Christmas film at Cannes this year. For his third feature, Tyler Taormina once again focuses on the joys of a ceremony. In this case, a Christmas Eve gathering of a middle-class Italian-American family. Producer and actor Michael Cera plays an unlikely policeman straight out of Supergrave or Twin Peaks. Also starring are Francesca Scorsese and Sawyer Spielberg."
