To The Moon with Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum in cinemas this summer: our opinion

A light, offbeat comedy, "To the Moon" stars Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum in a story about a space race. Directed by Greg Berlanti, the film opens in cinemas on Wednesday July 10.

To The Moon, directed by Greg Berlanti and written by Rose Gilroy, is a romantic comedy that goes behind the scenes of one of the most iconic missions in human history: Apollo 11. With a stellar cast including Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum and Nick Dillenburg, this film promises to blend history and humor against a backdrop of space conquest. Scheduled for release on July 10, 2024, the film revisits the big screen with a chic yet biting take onlunar exploration.

In To The Moon, Scarlett Johansson plays Kelly Jones, a brilliant marketing expert hired by NASA to polish the space agency's image in the eyes of the world. Opposite her, Channing Tatum plays Cole Davis, the director of the Apollo 11 mission, whose task is complicated by Kelly's interventions. When it becomes clear that the stakes of the mission exceed normal expectations, the White House decides that failure is not an option and orders the preparation of a fake lunar landing in case the real one fails. Between pretenses and real feelings, the film reveals a race against time full of tension and twists and turns.

To The Moon targets a wide audience with its unique blend of romantic comedy and dramatized history, sublimated by Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum. The film is particularly suited to those who appreciate historical narratives revisited with a modern, humorous twist. What sets To The Moon apart from other space films is its novel angle: rather than focusing solely onspace heroism, it explores the ethical and personal implications of behind-the-scenes decisions, while maintaining a light, entertaining tone.

With its star-studded cast and captivating story, To The Moon is set to capture the public's imagination when it hits cinemas on July 10, 2024.

Our opinion:

The film plunges us into a very retro universe: oversized hairstyles, flash colors and vintage cars, the viewer finds himself back in the United States of the 70s, and it works very well. Rhythmic music accompanies the colorful sets, adding a certain cadence to the film. To the Moon lasts 2 hours 11 minutes, and you honestly can't see it go by.

Although the film also tells a love story, it's hard to really call it a romantic comedy. Easy to predict, the romance between Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson isn't the center of the plot either, and thankfully so! The director chooses to focus on the space race and the famous ultimatum posed by The White House, played by the brilliant Woody Harrelson. We couldn't have done without the love story between the two main characters.

Scarlett Johansson plays the annoying marketing expert to perfection, always getting what she wants. Like a hidden feminist message, her self-confidence makes the film a pleasure to watch. As for Channing Tatum, his role as a kindly sourpuss is a little disappointing; it would have been interesting to see an Apollo 11 Mission Director with a little more energy and character. Nevertheless, his performance in To the Moon is well matched by a rather funny text, making for a good moment of letting go.

To the Moon is a must-see if you want to relax, have a good laugh and learn (a little) about the space race in the 60s. Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum are far from playing their greatest roles, but we're delighted to see them back together in a comedy!
