Attention Splatoon fans! Splatoon 3 has been available on Nintendo Switch since September 9, 2022. Let's find out all about the new "Salmon Run Next Wave" co-op mode! Game modes, festivals, gameplay... We tell you what we thought of this new opus, one of the most eagerly awaited for Christmas 2022.

That's news that must have made a lot of fans happy! Splatoon 3 is available, on Nintendo Switch, with a whole host of new features from September 9, 2022.

For the record, at a Nintendo Direct held on February 17, 2021, Nintendo announced the future release of Splatoon 3, the sequel to the first two installments of the third-person view(TPS) shooter, on Nintendo Switch. Little information was unveiled at the time, with only a trailer, but it still delivered its share of surprises!

What did the first trailer reveal? First, a pitch, originally revealed in the video's description on the U.S. Nintendo account, which basically says:"Splatoon 3 is coming to Nintendo Switch in 2022! In the wake of chaos, enter Clabousse Land, a sun-scorched territory, and Cité-Clabousse, the new city inhabited by battle-hardened Inklings and Octolings. New weapons, new moves and more await you, so be sure to keep an eye on the various upcoming announcements."

The trailer also featured the avatar customization interface, a slight change from the last opus, as well as a companion animal. A new weapon, a bow that shoots paint arrows, is also available. And if that's not enough, there's a new, fresh look to the game's scenery, and an edgy multiplayer mode that should please long-time players, as well as new movement techniques that are sure to spice up your 4vs4.

But Splatoon 3 was back in the news on February 9, 2022... And with good reason: at a new Nintendo Direct, the game unveiled a new trailer showing its brand-new co-op mode, Salmon Run Next Wave.

On April 22, new information was revealed about this highly-anticipated game, including the official release date of the third opus in this ultra-entertaining series, then later this summer during Nintendo Direct. The game is now available from September 9, 2022, for a merciless battle!

Our opinion on the game:

Splatoon 3 was one of the most eagerly awaited games of late 2022, and probably one of the topChristmas gifts to be found under the tree.

Aimed at fans and neophytes alike, the 3rd opus features new game modes and a much more developed story mode than previous versions.

We appreciateAlterna 's story and the fact that each time we complete a level, we discover a little more about the cataclysms that struck humanity, its disappearance and the appearance of the Inkling and Octarians on Earth.

Nevertheless, the main interest of the game still lies in 4 vs. 4 team combat, live (with a Nintendo Online subscription) or on a local network.

Right from the start of the game, you have to choose between the Octaling and Inkling sides. This choice can be modified in the settings at any time. Choosing one or the other doesn't change the gameplay, but it does change the aesthetics.

As far as story mode is concerned, we appreciate the fact that collectibles are no longer found in levels. They are now hidden in the world, and you no longer have to redo the same level over and over again to collect them.

The new story mode also allows you to buy upgrades and progress your character. However, these changes have no impact on the online mode.

Gameplay:

Two new moves have been added to GamePlay: the Calamari Spin, which lets you turn around to avoid enemy fire, for example, and the Calamari Surge, very handy for instantly climbing up an anchored wall, whereas before you had to advance at normal speed all the way to the top.

We also appreciated the use of tickets to purchase weapons. In previous versions, you had to use money, and there wasn't enough left over to buy or upgrade equipment.

Another new feature is the ability to replace a weapon's main bonus with 45 fragments. Each weapon has a main bonus and 2 or 3 secondary bonuses, depending on its level. Before, you couldn't change the main bonus, so you had to buy a good piece of equipment with a good main bonus; now you can swap them.

A word of warning about the tricolor wars. While the initial idea was good, the rendering leaves much to be desired! The game mode is poorly balanced, with the defenders having almost no chance of winning, so they lose too many points. To counter this, Nintendo has reduced the probability of encountering a tricolor match, even when this game mode is expressly chosen. We hope the developers are working on a patch to rebalance this.

Fans will appreciate the many easter eggs. For example, Tipik 's evolution: the young boy who offers various equipment-related services has become a teenager grafted onto his phone. But also the fact that our friend Salmioche, who accompanies us in most of the levels of the story mode, has made his appearance in Cité-Clabousse: you can now bump into him in town, which is nice. And some old characters have been reintroduced, such as the new admiral who is none other than Number 3, the main character from the 1st Splatoon.

In conclusion, Splatoon 3 is a good game that brings a breath of fresh air to the franchise and is sure to please new and old players alike.
