It's the king of fighting games, the absolute reference, the iconic license that has spanned generations. Street Fighter returns to PC, PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series with a sixth opus, scheduled for June 2, 2023. Unveiled at a State of Play event, the very first trailer for Capcom 's game promised an all-new gaming experience, new characters and " new modes that reinvent the fighting game experience ", according to the PlayStation Blog. We were also able to preview the game at Paris Games Week 2022!
Street Fighter 6 trailer at the Game Awards :
Street Fighter 6 is set to offer fans of the saga and newcomers alike a hyper-realistic world of fun , with an Arcade mode, a Training mode, local and online battles and two brand-new game modes: World Tour and Battle Hub.
This new opus has been developed using Capcom's RE Engine (used for Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village). This system enables the addition of numerous graphic details that bring images to life. PlayStation blog quotes " the drops of sweat that run down the skin of the fighters, their muscles that contract in combat or the cherry blossom petals that twirl as they move."
The first images of the game show a very colorful universe, with characters with distinct identities and fighting styles. A major new feature that should add a spectacular dimension to this game is the open world. A complete story mode and freedom of movement should revolutionize the license, setting it apart from classic fighting games. We also note the arrival of real-time match commentary, a fun new feature that can add more fun and dynamism to your fight.
The saga's mythical characters are back, and we're also introduced to a new fighter, Jamie, who should bring a breath of fresh air to the game. The gameplay video released during the State of Play in February 2023 also reveals some colorful new fighters. We're delighted to see the imposing Zangief, and the terrible Cammy. And we discover Lily, a little girl with great powers...
Our Street Fighter 6 preview:
So, does Street Fighter 6 rise to the challenge of hyperrealism? First of all, we were able to get our hands on the game at Paris Games Week. We were able to test the classic combat mode in three 1vs1 matches.
And we're not going to lie, the game is graphically very beautiful, and the cinematics are very close to what you'd expect in this respect. But we're still a long way from a Unreal Engine 5 on the scale of the Matrix Awakens experience, released at the end of 2021 on PS5... At least as far as graphics are concerned, but the performance is beautiful and deserves to be highlighted. When it comes to character movements, on the other hand, the cinematic sequences show a truly realistic way of fighting and moving. A real plus that makes the game even more captivating. In short, it all looks very promising.
As for the gameplay itself, there's nothing new on the horizon, since we're back to what makes this type of game so special. On the other hand, there are more fluid movements, making the game more accessible, especially for those not used to this type of software. So there's little or no frustration for novices, who have every chance of winning.
A truly beautiful game, in any case, and a promising one at that, which we'll be keeping a close eye on.
We look forward to seeing you in June 2023 on PS4, PS5, XBox Series X and S and on PC for new adventures with a vengeance!
We can't wait to dive back into this mythical license!
