The most eagerly awaited cat in the videogame universe finally showed the tip of its claws at the last PlayStation State of Play conference, in June 2022! Stray, a game developed by BlueTwelve Studios and Annapurna Interactive, revealed a little more about its story and gameplay in a new trailer, meowing us a release date at the same time.
The game has been available on PS5 and PC since July 19, 2022. Nintendo Switch players, on the other hand, will have to wait until winter 2024 to discover this original and critically acclaimed game. This eagerly-awaited game features a cat wandering through a cyberpunk universe. The game's pitch, in detail, is as follows:"Lost, alone and separated from his family, a stray cat must unravel an ancient mystery to extricate himself from a long-forgotten cyberville and finally return home", reads the game's YouTube page.
Originally announced for 2020, the software, developed by two indie studios, surprised many gamers, immediately creating a certain hype around it. Another piece of good news from Sony at this State of Play is that Stray will also be available free of charge to all players subscribing to the new PlayStation Plus, in its Extra and Premium versions. A day-one game, at no extra cost! Ain't life grand? Watch the trailer!
Our review:
Stray is a short but intense game in which you play as a cat. As far as gameplay is concerned, all the cat's paraphernalia is there: you can meow, run, claw on carpets and sofas, lap up your water bowl, purr or even rub up against the legs of passers-by... It's pretty well done and quite fun. Real cat owners should even be able to have some fun with theirs, by trying their hand at chatting with the console version of the cat... Results guaranteed!
But don't think the game stops there... the other highlight of the gameplay is the robot, which you unlock fairly quickly and which will enable you to carry out the quests to return to the surface, with an interface already more common to this type of game. So it's up to you to search for objects of all kinds that you can exchange to unlock paths and other passages that will allow you to progress through the story.
We also appreciate the more dynamic "combat" phases, consisting mainly of dodging parasites (before finding an effective weapon), and still requiring a little thought, with puzzles to solve in order to progress (barrels to roll, joysticks to activate, etc.). Our only regret is its lifespan, but for an indie game, that's more than enough to immerse you in the adventure. A great nugget, then, to get hold of right away if you don't have the new PS+ subscriptions. Go for it, folks!
