New Sonic Superstars! The thrilling new adventure of the video game world's most famous blue hedgehog once again showed its face at Gamescom 2023, giving a glimpse of its gameplay in a new trailer, as well as a release date. Developed by Arzest and published by SEGA, the game is due for release on October 17, 2023. This new 2D platform offering will be available on multiple consoles, including PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and also PC. The opus marks the return of the classic format that made Sonic famous in the 90s, but with updated graphics worthy of 2023.
In terms of gameplay, Sonic Superstars promises new experiences with a host of new features. Players will have the opportunity to embody one of four playable characters: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy Rose. The seven new Emerald Powers add an extra layer of dynamism, offering players new ways to move and attack, such as character multiplication, shape shifting and the ability to swim up waterfalls. For the first time in the series, Sonic Superstars also introduces a local multiplayer mode for up to four players, allowing friends to join forces and share the excitement of the adventure.
But Sonic Superstars wouldn't be a true Sonic game without a good batch of opponents. In addition to the ever-present Dr. Eggman , players will face Fang, an old adversary, as well as a mysterious new enemy. This adventure will take you through twelve new zones to explore, all set in the fictional Northstar Islands. Sonic Superstars is more than just a remaster: it's a full-fledged gaming experience, promising a more in-depth story than in previous games in the franchise.
