When will crowds return to stadiums? According to Emmanuel Macron they could return from early 2021. After gathering, this Tuesday November 17, 2020, players from the sport sector in France for a video-conference held at the Elysée palace, the French President has given details as for support measures for the French sport sector, along with prospects for professional and amateur sport to eventually resume.
As for welcoming crowds in stadiums, still banned with the lockdown measures implemented since October 30, 2020, Emmanuel Macron addressed the matter. As for professional sport, even though new supports have been unlocked for soccer, rugby and tennis clubs, other news are rejoicing.
As a matter of fact: crowds will be able to return to stadiums from early 2021 at the earliest. President Macron affirms the return of the public “is not possible in December” because of the active spread of Covid-19 in the country. At the same time, the head of state has announced a €110 million compensation fund – in order to cover part of the ticket losses – will be set up for clubs concerned.
Since the health crisis broke out, stadiums have been closed and people have been accepting to watch soccer, rugby and other professional sport games on television. But for some sports – basketball for instance, said to be “at risk” – competitions are still on hold.
In France, the new 2020-2021 soccer season returns from August 23, as announced by the LFP in a press release after hosting scrimmages in July.
