An evening of dance created live by three musicians and two loop stations, blending brass band sounds, electronics and Maghreb rhythms. Fanfara Station, inspired by the memory of songwriter Marzouk Mejri's father, celebrates the musical cultures of the African diaspora and the connections between the Middle East, the Maghreb, Europe and the Americas.
Marie van Rhijn has conceived this program as a musical encounter between two worlds and traditions, combining her repertoire of18th-century French harpsichord music with that of traditional Mongolian oral music. Through an evocative bestiary, each style discovers the other with good humor, curiosity and complicity. This show takes young and old to lands of laughter, myths, beliefs and, above all, sharing, with yaks, sheep, gnats, flies, bees, sparrows, nightingales and doves.
The show Les Petites douceurs is made up of several small sections, comparable to finely chiselled pastries. The writing, in classical form, evokes the recipe of a tasty dish. Inspired by extra-Western music, these sections retain Western instrumentation and exclude improvisation. The link with this music is made through modality and rhythm, with horizontal melodic phrases and non-European rhythmic figures. Instrumentation includes: flute, clarinet/bass clarinet, viola and cello.
Fanfaraï is without doubt the most atypical and cosmopolitan brass band in the Maghreb. Whether on stage or in the street, Fanfaraï blends raï, chaabi and gnawi with jazzy, Afro-Cuban or gypsy brass. This music, nourished by improvisation, subtly rewrites the classical repertoire, with particular attention to arrangements and original compositions. Northerners and southerners come together on a festive journey across the Mediterranean, guided by sharing and unfailing energy.
The music of Mohamed Najem's jazz-influenced quartet (piano, drums, double bass) adds a unique touch to the oriental compositions. Led by a Palestinian composer and clarinetist from Bethlehem, the group blends Arabic music and jazz, inspired by Jaffa, Jerusalem and Paris, where it has resided since 2014. Founded in 2016, the quartet has performed in France and abroad. The clarinet playing, oriental and contemporary, creates melodies influenced by jazz and classical music.
The Still Point project is the result of a meeting between the Des Équilibres ensemble, directed by Agnès Pyka , and French-Congolese pianist Ray Lema. The artists wanted to blend chamber music with jazz and African sounds. After independence, Ray Lema became musical director of the Ballet national du Zaïre. In 1979, he moved to the United States, before settling in France in 1982. In 2006, Agnès Pyka brought together a group of musicians to discuss a variety of aesthetics and art forms. Des Équilibres covers all forms of chamber music.
Under the direction of conductor Camille Delaforge,Ensemble Il Caravaggio dedicates its art to the Baroque and Classical lyrical repertoires, teaming up with brilliant singers. In addition to the classics, it rediscovers forgotten musical treasures, spotlighting neglected female composers such as Isabelle Leonarda and Elizabeth Jacquet de La Guerre. Yaman Okur, French dancer and choreographer, excels in breakdance, winning several titles including the world championship. His unique style sets him apart, and he continues to impress with his rhythm and absolute body control.
Ayom is a multicultural sextet led by Brazilian singer and percussionist Jabu Morales. Their music crosses the Black Atlantic, from Brazil to Angola to Cape Verde, giving rise to a nomadic, provocative, danceable musicality that blends tradition with masculine and feminine crossbreeding, poetry, energy and joy.
