Oyez, admirers of the great Molière. The story of the playwright (and actor), a member of the Comédie-Française, is adapted into a brand new kind of musical. Molière becomes a sublime urban opera, performed once again at the Paris Dome from February 18 to 28, 2025.

More than 400 years after Molière's birth, a musical comedy based on the author's life is born. The show, the brainchild of Dove Attia, returns to the Dôme de Paris (ex-Palaisdes Sports) from February 18 to 28, 2025, following a tour of France.

And, after rock operas such as Starmania (currently playing at La Seine Musicale), La Légende de Jimmy or, more recently, Mozart l'opéra rock and Le Rouge et le Noir, here's a new genre coming onto the musical theatre scene:urban opera. The musical Molière is an urban opera. In other words, a musical with rap and urban music.

On stage, we find singers, slammers, dancers, rappers, actors and musicians. Molière 's story begins in 1642, when Jean-Baptiste Poquelin was just 20 years old and dreaming big theater dreams.

The project is backed by the Play Two music label. The cast, directed by Bruno Berberes, already behind The Ten Commandments, The Sun King and 1789: The Lovers of the Bastille, among other successful musicals, is beginning to reveal itself. The Prince de Conti is played by Abi Bernadoth, winner of the 9th season of The Voice in 2020. As for Madeleine Béjart, she is played by Morgan.

A first single, Regardez-moi, has been released:

Our review of Molière, l'Opéra Urbain:

Paris welcomes a new gem, a surprising show: Molière, l'Opéra Urbain. This production, playing until February 18, 2024 at the Dôme de Paris, then on tour thereafter, is a veritable nugget in the world of musical comedy.

With its 52 original songs (according to composer Dove Attia) skilfully blending different musical genres, the show is a veritable fresco of sound and vision, bursting with energy. The audacity of this mix, which might be disconcerting at first, proves to be a strength. The intensity of the show rises to a crescendo, peaking in the breathtaking second act.

The scenography, sets, choreography and costumes are of remarkable finesse. Each element has been designed with the precision of a goldsmith, creating a visual universe as rich as it is varied, which accompanies and reinforces the story.

Abi Bernadoth, Lou and Shaïna Pronzola shine brightly on stage. Their magnetic presence captivates and moves, whether in choruses or solos. They embody with rare intensity the different aspects of Molière's genius, bringing to life his contradictions, passions and inspirations.

The show offers a rereading of the life of Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, skilfully blending history and modernity. Note, however, that this modernism may confuse fans of the Comédie Française's great classics, as this show is clearly aimed at families. The audience is transported through time, discovering or rediscovering the genius of this author in a new light. A perfect gift if you want to enchant a child, and introduce them to the author who changed the history of comedy.

The humor is not outdone, with a completely offbeat Duc d'Orléans providing a welcome touch of levity. This character, both comical and endearing, provides moments of pure entertainment.

Molière, l'Opéra Urbain is more than just a show, it's a complete work of art that will undoubtedly mark the history of musical comedy in the same way as giants like Starmania or Notre Dame de Paris. It's a must-see show, a sure-fire hit with all musical theatre fans.

Molière, l'Opéra Urbain is a dazzling success, a whirlwind of creativity and passion. It would be a shame to miss out on this artistic gem. Let yourself be transported by this celebration of art, history and music.
