For one evening, two dance companies present a singular landscape representative of today's dance and highlighting the diversity of contemporary choreographic cultures.
On the program :
2 dance companies, 2 styles, 2 different universes
An exploration of the symbolism of hair across different cultures. Hair can represent beauty, strength, virility, fertility or spirituality. It has also been used as a means of domination, oppression or resistance.
Highlighting the complexity of this symbolism and the way it reflects the issues at stake in our societies, histories and individualities.
Note of intent
"We worked with fluid, organic movements to evoke the material of hair and the emotions that connect us to it. The challenge is to provoke reflection on the profound meaning of our hair and our cultural identity."
Fragments, originally conceived as a concise expression of Partir, becomes a creation in its own right, a short 30-minute format that re-explores the flamenco repertoire of alegria and siguiriya con castaňuelas, two palos favored by Alma Ryan.
In this piece, the alegría is performed by Alma Ryan in bata de cola, a flamenco-specific dress with multiple ruffles and a train at the end, requiring precise handling, coordination and leg technique.
Alma Ryan cannot conceive of creation without live music. In Loïg Delanoy, she has found an ideal stage partner who skilfully and virtuosically combines tradition and modernity, writing and improvisation.
Fragments evokes Alma Ryan's family history between Andalusia and Auvergne, and somewhere in Ireland. This creation integrates the duality and complementarity of flamenco and contemporary dance, and guides singular scenographic choices.
