Berlin Berlin, a critically acclaimed and Molière award-winning comedy, will run at the Théâtre des Nouveautés until July 7, 2024. Written by Patrick Haudecœur and Gérald Sibleyras, it takes place in Berlin during the Cold War and the existence of the Berlin Wall.

Berlin Berlin! is playing at the Théâtre des Nouveautés until July 7, 2024. The play won two awards at the Molières 2022 ceremony, for Best Comedy of the Year and Best Actor.

The play is directed by José Paul, who also directed Times Square. The successful writing duo, Patrick Haudeoceur (author of Frou-Frou les Bains, Thé à la menthe ou t'es citron?...) and Gérald Sibleyras(Des Fleurs pour Algernon, Une Situation Délicate and Un Visiteur Inattendu), had already teamed up for the excellent Silence on tourne .

We find ourselves in East Berlin. Two characters, Emma and Ludwig, want to escape to West Berlin. To do this, Emma hires herself out to look after Werner Hoffman's mother, an old lady with an apartment that has a secret passageway leading to the other side of the wall. Last but not least, Werner Hoffman's son is a Stasi agent and falls madly in love with Emma...

Berlin Berlin! takes us on a wild comedy ride with Lysiane Meis (who starred in Plancha) and Loïc Legendre(Où est Jean-Louis?, Donnant-Donnant, Qu'est-ce qu'on a tous fait au bon dieu?), as well as Patrick Haudecœur, Caroline Maillard, Pierre-Olivier Mornas, Michel Lerousseau, Raïssa Mariotti, Guilhem Pellegrin, Claude Guyonnet, Gino Lazzerini and others.

How about an evening in Berlin? You can go to Berlin Berlin! until July 7, 2024 at the Théâtre des Nouveautés .

Our review:

Even before the performance begins, we are plunged into the atmosphere of Cold War East Berlin, separated from West Berlin by the Berlin Wall. When the curtain rises, the staging is classic but effective. The first act sets the scene, the characters are introduced and the laughter grows. The pace quickens and we're whisked away to a wacky Stasi office, a laugh-out-loud moment right to the end of the show. The play tells the incredible story of an escape from East Berlin to West Berlin, with real dynamism. We're carried along by a series of misunderstandings and misunderstandings, punctuated by scene changes and the appearance of new characters throughout the play. The staging, by José Paul, features an interesting set design, plunging us into the streets of Berlin with a 3D effect.

The actors make us laugh one by one, mastering their roles to perfection. Awarded the Molière for best comedy in 2022, the theater is still packed to the rafters today, in April 2024. Berlin Berlin is a real moment of relaxation and laughter, and a must-see if you want to cut yourself off from today's world. The text, written by the author duo Patrick Haudeoceur/GéraldSibleyras, is effective and is enhanced by its comical staging and excellent acting.
