La Serva Amorosa is a comedy in three acts by Carlo Goldoni, translated and adapted by Ginette Henry and directed by Catherine Hiegel. It runs at the Théâtre de la Porte Saint-Martin from September 25 to December 31, 2024. Isabelle Carré plays Coraline, the faithful servant, in a major feminist role in the classical repertoire.
La Serva Amorosa, by Carlo Goldoni, tells the story of Coraline, an intelligent and devoted servant, who helps her young master, Florindo, overcome obstacles to marry the woman he loves, Beatrice. Despite the intrigues and complications caused by Florindo's tutor, Pantalon, and the other servants, Coraline uses her wit and cunning to resolve conflicts and reunite the lovers.
Carlo Goldoni, the celebrated playwright, reformed 18th-century Italian theater with his comedies featuring more natural dialogue and more complex characters. His play La Serva Amorosa has been, ever since its first performance, has been appreciated for its humor, liveliness and subtle critique of social norms. At Théâtre de la Porte Saint-Martin, Isabelle Carré plays the maid Coraline, accompanied on stage by Hélène Babu,Jackie Berroyer, Olivier Cruveiller,Antoine Hamel, Jeremy Lewin,Tom Pezier, Jérôme Pouly and Stanislas Stanic .
