In the heart of the 10th arrondissement, the Théâtre Antoine will be presenting until May 26, 2024, a never-before-seen adaptation of the celebrated film "Le Cercle des Poètes Disparus". This first French adaptation, based on the iconic 1989 film written by Tom Schulman, is an ode to freedom and personal expression, with staging by Olivier Solivérès, breathing new life into this timeless work.
As Professor John Keating, comedian and actor Stéphane Freiss takes on the daunting task of portraying the charismatic, iconoclastic character, portrayed by the legendary Robin Williams in the film version, guiding his young pupils towards a revolt against the shackles of convention. The story is adapted into a play in this French version by Gérald Sibleyras, with the aim of evoking with accuracy and sensitivity the themes of friendship, emancipation and transmission.
A plunge into the atmosphere of a 1950s school, with a story that resonates deeply in everyone's heart, as personalities and destinies take shape. The cast, made up of young actors Ethan Oliel, Hélie Thonnat, Audran Cattin, Maxence Seva, Pierre Delage, Maxime Huriguen, Yvan Garouel and Olivier Bouana, contributes to creating a coherent and moving ensemble, just like the collective dynamic that makes the heart of the film version beat faster.
The play's message, "Carpe Diem", sounds like a cry for life, a cry for freedom. This maxim, more relevant than ever, will invite everyone to attend the adaptation of this work of American cinema .
The play has now been nominated for 6 Molières 2024 awards:
