Le Menteur, adapted from Corneille 's play and directed by Marion Bierry, runs again at the Théâtre de Poche Montparnasse from April 18 to June 28, 2024. A play featuring Corneille as a writer of comedies, who is often considered a writer of tragedies.
The play features Dorante, a young man who has just finished his studies. Together with his valet, he meets two young women and invents a military career in order to seduce them. The protagonist soon finds himself a prisoner of his own lies, and a series of pro quos and misunderstandings ensue. The young women are not completely fooled, however, and seek revenge on their seducer...
In her adaptation of the play,Marion Bierry chose to mix the text of Le Menteur with La suite du Menteur, also by Corneille, and considers it "impossible to give up this typically Cornelian facetiousness of playing, in the theater, with the theater". On stage, you'll find Alexandre Bierry, Benjamin Boyer, Anne-Sophie Nallino or Marion Lahmer, Serge Noël, Mathilde Riey or Maud Forget and Brice Hillairet or Yan Tassin .
