Paris is the international capital of fashion and luxury, so it's hardly surprising that so many of the world's leading designers have decided to set up shop here to bring their brands to life. This is particularly true ofYves Saint Laurent, who established his couture house in the very heart of the French capital, in the 16th arrondissement. In 2017, this couture house was transformed into the Yves Saint Laurent Museum. To pay tribute to this great couturier and his work, the Fondation Pierre Bergé - Yves Saint Laurent has decided to highlight over 40 years of creations, imagined by this true symbol of Parisian haute couture.
With over 5,000 items of clothing, 15,000 accessories and tens of thousands of sketches, collection plates, photographs and other documents, the collection owned by the foundation is incredibly rich. And with good reason: Yves Saint Laurent is the only couturier of his generation to have taken the precaution of archiving all his work, right from the opening of his own couture house. And today, lovers of fashion and haute couture thank him, enjoying without moderation his work on display in the museum on Avenue Marceau.
The Parisian address is in a historic location: the Yves Saint Laurent couture house at 5 avenue Marceau, where the couturier imagined and brought to life numerous creations for almost 30 years. Later home to the Fondation Pierre Bergé - Yves Saint Laurent, it now houses the museum dedicated to the designer.
This 450 m² museum showcases Yves Saint Laurent's sketches, drawings, photographs and textile creations, while revealing the designer's secrets. The former haute couture salons and the designer's creative studio are integrated into the permanent tour. The aim? To plunge visitors into the heart of the fashion house 's creative process, for an almost total immersion in the world ofYves Saint Laurent. To demonstrate the richness of his heritage, the pieces on display will be frequently renewed.
Open Tuesday to Sunday, the museum regularly organizes thematic temporary exhibitions. The museum is closed on January 1, May 1 and December 25. Admission costs between 10 and 7 euros, and is free for children under 10, the unemployed and the disabled. The museum is also accessible to people with reduced mobility. Prior reservation is strongly recommended to avoid disappointment at the cash desk. To get to the museum, take line 9 (Alma-Marceau station) or RER line C (Pont de l'Alma station).
All lovers of French fashion and haute couture can look forward to a visit to this exceptional museum, which continues to surprise us.
