Picasso 1932, erotic year at the Musée Picasso

The Musée National Picasso decided to recount the painter’s life during the year 1932, a year full of productions. An exhibition in partnership with the Tate Modern in London running from October 10, 2017 to February 11, 2018.

Painting is just another way of keeping a diary”. We owe this beautiful sentence to Pablo Picasso who, in 1932, had been so prolific that each work can be used as the artist’s diary pages. Actually, this is the idea offered by the Picasso 1932 exhibition dedicated to the painter at the Musée National Picasso from October 10, 2017 to February 11, 2018.

An exhibition through which we discover his ideas, their developments, his desires and maybe his regrets… Everything that makes a diary. A way to discover the painter and the development of his art for a year and in a chronological order. And what a year! 1932 has been the year of the series focused on “Les Baigneuses” as well as on colorful portraits of Marie-Thérèse Walter. Works that ask “the question about the relation to surrealism”.

A year also marked by the “museumization” of the artist’ work through the opening of exhibitions at the Galerie Georges Petit in Paris or the release of the first volume of Catalogue Raisonné de l’Oeuvre de Pablo Picasso by Christian Zervos. The retrospective also offers visitors to run through various themes worked by Picasso this very same year: eroticism and crucifixion among others.
