In its new exhibition "Marie Curie, une femme au Panthéon" (Marie Curie, a woman in the Pantheon), on view from November 8, 2017 to March 4, 2018, the Monument National looks back at the life of this double Nobelist through 5 chapters. Marie Curie, born on November 7, 1867, became the first woman in the Panthéon, in 1995.
Philippe Bélaval, President of the Centre des Monuments Nationaux, explains: " Celebrating the memory of Marie Curie within the walls of the Panthéon was an obvious choice. As a monument to the collective memory of Great Men, it is a particularly symbolic place for Marie Curie - the first woman to be admitted. Through her, all women working for research and science should feel honoured.
A rich archive of scientific instruments, period documents and Marie Curie's personal belongings will reveal the steps that led Marie Curie to enter the Pantheon, from her two Nobel Prizes to the opening of her Radium Institute, now the Institut Curie, not forgetting the meeting with her husband, an emeritus specialist in the magnetism of matter.
