Tintoretto. Birth of a genius at Paris Musée du Luxembourg

From March 7 to July 1, 2018, Paris Musée du Luxembourg returns on the birth of a genius, Tintoretto. Through 100 works, step by step, the exhibition reveals the first 15 years of the Venetian painter’s career: flying the nest, catching the attention, observing sculpture, painting women, adorning rooms and sharing a studio!

From March 7 to July 1, 2018, Tintoretto, painting genius, is the core subject of an exhibition displayed at Musée du Luxembourg. For this exhibition, the museum unveils the “early works” of the Venetian Renaissance painter starting from his oldest painting we’ve been preserving, The Adoration of the Magi, painted when he was only twenty years old, to the most important orders in the early 1550’s that kept helping him reach center stage.

It’s a wonderful occasion to follow the early years of a young man full of ambition, puffed up with Venetian tradition but willing to renew the painting in this cosmopolite Venice of the 16th century… The exhibition reveals strategies Tintoretto used to make himself known and attract an educated and influent clientele, including the collaboration with another renown artist, Giovanni Galizzi, who then offers a range of many of his models.

Between vivid imagination, eclecticism as well as the young artist’s trials and errors, the young man lives a disputed period of his life, a man from modest extraction, son of a dyer who experiences social climbing, “Tintoretto” literally meaning “little dyer” or “dyer’s boy”.
