Paris Cité de la Mode gives 1960-1970 fashion photography pride of place with an exhibition of the great photographer Peter Knapp. From March 9 to June 10, 2018, discover a resolutely modern exhibit.

Through Peter Knapp’s skilled eyes, Paris Cité de la mode et du design takes us back to two transitional decades in the story of fashion and female emancipation. From March 9 to June 10, 2018, the Quai d’Austerlitz-based venue displays the exhibition “Dancing in the Street, Peter Knapp et la mode 1960-1970” [Dancing in the Street, Peter Knapp and 1960-1970 fashion] highlighting the work of one of the greatest fashion photographers at a time where women are freed from the strangleholds imposed upon by the patriarchal society.

Through over 100 photographs, most of them have never been exhibited before, the picture creator’s graphic universe tells how in the 60’s-70’s women escaped from the rules of their older sisters, the rules related to clothes for a freer fashion, like her “From now on, silhouettes liberated from any constraints are in the street, in the field, on the beach. Models dance and jump, the essential is focused on the movement” the Cité de la Mode says to present Peter Knapp’s work.

The exhibition is all the more important that the pictures displayed come from the photographer’s private archives. Whether you are into fashion or just into feminism, this exhibition is one you can’t miss!
