“Degas, Danse, Dessin. A tribute to Degas with Paul Valéry” here’s the complete title of this beautiful exhibition.
Here, Edgar Degas (1834-1917) is king among kings since he’s one of the most love painters in impressionism history. Yet, if the whole word rushes to see his paintings, everyone’s head spinning in front of his dancers and his naked women coming out of their bath, only Paul Valéry (1971-1945) could claim he really fathomed the painter’s secret.
Writer, poet, philosopher, Paul Valéry is first and foremost an expert and produced with Degas Danse Dessin one of the greatest art books in all western countries (every art history student will tell you, this little book is a Bible!): because, when getting up close with the painter’s work, especially by having the artist’s eye, Paul Valéry successfully wrote a book talking universally talking about art and we can enjoy like an aesthetic guide.
This Fall-Winter 2017/2018, the Musée d’Orsay enchants us with this exhibition dedicated to the look Valéry had on his friend Degas’ work. Texts and drawings are put face to face and it’s with a certain emotion we observe their talents evolving, becoming richer thanks to one another. Paintings and sculptures, mostly focused on dance and equitation, complete this panorama paying interest in movement.
Don’t miss it!
