Generally speaking, Martin Margiela leaves no one unaffected: either you love his work, or you hate it. And for good reason, the famous Belgian creator has mastered the art of deconstructing clothes and subversion. Here, the goal is to change fashion rules, explore new styling perspectives and do experiments. Especially known for his very neutral, almost industrial, approach, 60-year old Martin Margiela has definitely left his mark on fashion history.
So, it’s to this creative genius – which eponymous house recently joined the very select club of Haute Couture – that the Palais Galliera dedicates its beautiful days. Until July 15, 2018, the fashion museum goes back on twenty years of the designer’s career, from 1989 to 2009. Thanks to about a hundred silhouettes, fashion show clips and archive items, Galliera brings a complete look on the anonymous monster of the contemporary fashion Martin Margiela is.
This exhibition is part of the Margiela in Paris season, especially illustrating by the exhibition “Margiela, the Hermès years” at Paris Arts Décoratifs, dedicated to the 7 years the designer spent at the helm of the famous French house.
We can tell you for sure that MARGIELA / GALLIERA, 1989-2009, is an exhibition you don’t want to miss!
