It’s been already 10 years since Yves Saint-Laurent died.
For his first temporary exhibition, running from May 29 to September 9, 2018, Musée Yves Saint-Laurent Paris opens Yves Mathieu-Saint-Laurent’s first sketches notebooks, notebooks he had when he was a teenager living in Oran, Algeria.
Living in the Oran bourgeoisie, pied noir Yves Saint-Laurent gets interested in arts, and it’s during a performance of The School For Wives staged by Louis Jouvet in 1950 that he throws himself into drawing and fashion.
At 14 years old, Yves Saint-Laurent already has a project, the “Illustre Petit Théâtre”, a true mini stage he decorates and where he has his cardboard characters walk and for which he creates costumes.
In 1954, thanks to his dad, Yves Saint-Laurent meets Michel de Brunhoff, Vogue editor in chief who advises him to start a fashion career. He’s only 18 years old, YSL is born!
From his projects, a very beautiful personal and unknown history, remain drawings, children books and papercut pieces of clothing, memorabilia of a life that you can discover in Musée YSL Paris lounges altered especially on the occasion.
Please note that on June 1, 2018, Yves Saint-Laurent’s death day, Musée YSL Paris will be free for everyone and all day long, enjoy!
