It’s a museum where one can read, touch with the eyes some rare archives, moved about memory tracks. More rarely, the visit is all about art. Recently, the Shoah et bande dessinée exhibition invited the ninth art to the heart of the thoughts about the Jewish genocide of the Second World War. Today, let’s welcome contemporary art.
Because for the very first time since its opening in 2005, the Shoah Mémorial dedicates its temporary exhibition area to five installations designed by different artists from the French contemporary creation: Sylvie Blocher (feat. Gérard Haller), Arnaud Cohen, Natacha Nisic, Esther Shalev-Gerz. They’re accompanied by a video offer by historian Christian Delage.
The idea is to invite artists’ subjectivity (and a historian’s then) to the heart of the historic though and the commemoration of the Shoah. Five works are very different from one another: there are two video clips, a performative work, a photographic work and an installation. All are moving and invite to a fertile and powerful thinking.
Because the role of art is to prevent the reality to sleep, this singular exhibition is worth every detours.
